Benefits of an International Driving License
An International Driving Permit (IDP), carried along with your valid Indian driving licence, lets you drive in many foreign countries that recognise it, for the period allowed by that country’s law.
Many car-rental companies abroad ask for an IDP along with your Indian driving licence and passport before handing over a vehicle.
The IDP presents your licence details in a standard multi-language format, which helps traffic police, insurers and rental agencies in other countries understand your licence.
Driving abroad with the right documents helps avoid problems with motor insurance claims, police checks and accident reporting in a foreign country.
No. An IDP is issued only after document verification and approval by the Licensing Authority (RTO), and its acceptance abroad depends on the laws of each country. Neither the Platform nor the Lawyer can guarantee issue, recognition, or a fixed timeline.
